As violent attacks against Indians in the are on the rise, another case of a young man from Punjab being shot in New York has now come to light.
The 27-year-old man, identified as Gurdeep Singh, was shot dead by an unidentified shooter while he was delivering pizza in City, with media reports suggesting that his family in a village in Begowal, Punjab, is devastated.

The incident occurred on Friday evening at approximately 9:58 pm, when NYPD officers found a man fatally shot multiple times in the chest and torso near 899 Crescent Street in Brooklyn, New York. EMS transported him to One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing, according to information shared on a account.
The attack is suspected to have been linked to an attempted robbery. Further details are expected to emerge after the New York City police investigate the incident.
Gurdeep Singh’s family seeks justice
Singh went to the US 13 years ago after taking a loan, hoping to earn a livelihood and secure a better future for his parents in India, NDTV reported on Sunday.
His father, Pyara Lal, said Singh had taken on substantial debt to travel to Washington but endured prolonged hardships after arriving there. He said Singh worked tirelessly, day and night, in an effort to build a better life for his family.
News of his death sent a wave of grief through Jabowal village, leaving his family members devastated and in shock. Gurdeep Singh is survived by his father and brother. The family has appealed to the government to make arrangements to bring his body back to India as soon as possible. They have also urged US authorities to take all necessary steps to ensure the accused is arrested swiftly and receives the strictest possible punishment.
Singh’s death comes amid a series of shooting incidents involving Indians in the US, including the recent killing of a Gujarati man in Tennessee.
Gujarati store-owner in Tennessee shot dead
Earlier on Thursday (local time), a 56-year-old who had been living in the US for over 30 years was allegedly shot dead during an attempted robbery in Jackson, Tennessee.
According to a statement posted on Facebook by the City of Jackson Police Department, the victim was identified as Suresh Patel, who ran a store in Jackson.
The alleged armed robbery took place at Ridgecrest Cellars at 2880 Ridgecrest Road. Police said the suspect entered the store and demanded money before fleeing in a white sedan. Before leaving, the suspect allegedly fired several shots inside the premises, striking Patel, who was pronounced dead at the scene. His 19-year-old daughter was also present but escaped unharmed.
The shooting also left another man injured. A 70-year-old employee was inside Patel’s store when the incident occurred and reportedly fell during the attack, suffering a wrist fracture.
A statement shared on the City of Jackson Police Department’s Facebook page read, “At approximately 9 pm, officers responded to a call regarding a robbery and shooting in the business. According to witnesses, an unidentified suspect entered the establishment, brandished a weapon, and demanded cash from the employees. After taking the money from the employee, the suspect fired multiple shots, striking one of the store employees. The victim was found deceased and identified as Suresh Patel, a 56-year-old man.”
The latest shootings have raised fresh concerns over the safety of communities in the US, as investigations into both cases continue.
