Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X to share a proud family milestone after his son Nandil, currently in his fifth year at the in Bengaluru, completed the Ironman Vietnam challenge.
He described Ironman as one of the most demanding endurance events globally, calling it a single-day test that pushes human stamina and mental strength to the edge. The competition requires participants to complete a 3.8 km swim, followed by a 180 km cycling race, and finally a full 42.2 km marathon, all back to back without long breaks.

According to the Chief Minister’s post, his son took on this extreme challenge on 10 May and finished it in approximately 16 hours. He had trained for about 7 to 8 months before attempting the race, preparing for what is widely considered a test of both physical endurance and mental resilience.
The CM expressed great pride in his son’s discipline and determination, noting that completing such a demanding event reflects strong commitment and perseverance. He also extended his best wishes for his son’s future journey and the milestones ahead.
Will his son join politics?
Beyond the sporting achievement, Himanta Biswa Sarma has also spoken earlier about his son’s career path and future. In public comments, he has clarified that he does not intend to bring his son into politics while he is actively serving as Chief Minister.
At the NDTV Assam Power Play held in Guwahati, he has emphasised that his son is currently focused on law studies and that he hopes he will build a strong career in his own field. According to him, the expectation within the family is that Nandil should first establish himself as a professional, particularly in law, rather than enter politics early. At the same time, he has acknowledged that future decisions are not entirely predictable. He noted that after his own tenure ends, his son may choose a different path, including politics, but that such a decision would be entirely his own.
Sarma also reiterated that during his time in office, he has never encouraged or pushed his son toward political life. Instead, he has advised him to focus on becoming a good lawyer and serving his profession with dedication.
