Streaming details of Kara
Now, less than a month after its theatrical release, Kara is all set for its digital premiere. According to listings on Netflix, the film will begin streaming from May 28. While the makers and the OTT platform are yet to officially announce the release date on social media, screenshots of the listing quickly surfaced online and sparked discussion among movie fans.
The film’s rapid transition from theatres to streaming has especially caught the attention of social media users. Many questioned whether such short release windows could negatively impact the cinema business in the long run. Some users on X (formerly Twitter) argued that audiences may stop visiting theatres if films become available online in high quality within just a few weeks of release.
Others, however, defended the decision, pointing out that movies with stronger theatrical performance often receive delayed OTT premieres, while films nearing the end of their theatrical run are usually released digitally much sooner. Several fans also noted that Kara had largely completed its box office journey, making the OTT move understandable from a business perspective.
All about the movie Kara
Set during the politically tense period of the 1991 Gulf War and Tamil Nadu’s fuel crisis, Kara blends crime, action and drama with a historical backdrop. The story follows Karasaami, popularly known as Kara, a thief who once attempted to leave his criminal life behind.
However, circumstances force him back into the underworld after his ancestral house is seized by a bank. As economic uncertainty and political unrest continue to affect ordinary lives, Kara struggles to survive while navigating dangerous situations and personal loss.

Mamitha Baiju plays an important role alongside him, while the supporting cast includes KS Ravikumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Karunas, Jayaram, Prithvi Rajan and Sreeja Ravi.
Directed by Vignesh Raja and co-written with Alfred Prakash, the film was produced by and Think Studios. Though the movie received mixed reviews upon release, several viewers appreciated its ambitious setting, performances and attempt to merge socio-political themes with commercial storytelling.
According to trade tracking website Sacnilk, Kara collected around Rs 37.50 crore net in India and earned approximately Rs 53.65 crore gross worldwide during its theatrical run.
With its OTT release now around the corner, the Dhanush-starrer will soon get another chance to connect with audiences who may have missed it in theatres. Stay tuned!
