Kashmir parties hail US-Iran ceasefire, call for lasting peace as Valley celebrates

Spontaneous jubilation erupts in Kashmir Valley on West Asia ceasefire announcement

Srinagar: Political parties in Kashmir welcomed the ceasefire between US and Iran stating that this should lead to a permanent resolution that will ensure regional and world peace.

Soon after news of the ceasefire spread, celebrations were reported from many areas in Kashmir. Locals termed it “a major victory of truth over evil”. They burst fire crackers and took out processions holding Iranian flags. Major celebrations were reported from Budgam, Magam and other areas of the Valley.

Ruling National Conference president and former chief minister of J&K said there is no other option than dialogue for all stakeholders. “War has never been a solution, and it will never be. So I, on behalf of our people, congratulate these countries (the US and Iran) and hope they will sit and talk. I pray to God that they talk peace as this war affected the entire world,” said Abdullah. Abdullah refused to credit any country for brokering the ceasefire, saying it was God’s doing. “I will not give credit to any country. God created a way and they are trying to tread that path.”
