JD Vance to reveal his journey from lost faith to Catholic conversion in new book Communion

Vice President JD Vance said his book grapples with deeper questions about his spiritual drift earlier in life.

US Vice President JD Vance has announced a new book, Communion, detailing his spiritual journey and return to Christianity through Catholicism.

“I’ve been writing this book for a long time, and I’m honored to finally be able to share the full story with you all. Communion is about my personal journey and how I found my way back to faith,” Vance wrote on X.

Reflecting on his past, he said in a statement: “The story of how I regained my faith, of course, only happened because I had lost it to begin with.”

Exploring loss and rediscovery of belief

Vance said the book grapples with deeper questions about his spiritual drift earlier in life.

“The interesting question that hangs over this book, and over my mind, is why I ever strayed from the path. Why the Christian faith of my youth failed to properly take root,” he wrote.

The 304-page book, written over several years since 2019, will also include reflections from his time in politics.

From atheism to Catholicism

Vance has previously spoken about moving from Christianity to atheism before converting to Catholicism in 2019. He credits his faith with giving him renewed purpose and direction.
