Meghan Markle is in talks to join the third season of ‘s The Gentlemen, according to Variety, in what could become her most significant acting role since she stepped away from the profession after marrying Prince Harry.

The is said to be in very early discussions for a role in the Guy Ritchie-created crime series, with no contract currently in place. Her potential character has also not been identified. The series itself has not yet been officially renewed for a third season.

The Gentlemen stars as Eddie Horniman, an aristocrat and former British Army officer who unexpectedly inherits his family’s sprawling estate following his father’s death. He soon discovers that the property is at the centre of a major underground cannabis operation, drawing him into the criminal world.

The first season, released in 2024, became a successful Netflix title and expanded the world established by Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name. Its eight-episode story combined , organised crime and dark comedy, with James joined by Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson and Vinnie Jones. Netflix describes the series as a mix of crime, action, comedy and dramedy.

Season 2 is due to premiere on September 3. The new instalment follows Eddie and Susie Glass, played by Scodelario, as their criminal enterprise expands. The returning cast is joined by Hugh Bonneville, Benjamin Clementine, Benedetta Porcaroli, Amra Mallassi and Maya Jama, among others.

For Markle, the possible role would represent a return to the kind of scripted television work that established her public profile. She is best known for playing Rachel Zane on the legal drama , appearing across seven seasons from 2011 to 2018. Her acting career largely ended after she married in 2018 and became a working member of the British royal family. The couple later stepped back from royal duties and moved to California, where they established Archewell Productions and began developing projects for Netflix.

That relationship with the streamer could make The Gentlemen a natural fit. Markle and Harry’s Archewell Productions already has a deal with Netflix, through which they have produced projects including Harry & Meghan, Heart of Invictus and Markle’s lifestyle series With Love, Meghan.

Markle has nevertheless remained connected to the entertainment industry. In 2026, she made a cameo as herself in ‘s Close Personal Friends, marking her first acting appearance in more than seven years. She has also spoken about her continued interest in creative work. In a recent Variety interview, she described the return as an opportunity to “explore and play and have fun.”

The latest development comes shortly after news that Markle and Prince Harry are moving back to the UK with their two children for an “extended period” after six years in . Their representatives and Netflix have declined to comment on the reported discussions about The Gentlemen.

For now, Markle’s involvement remains at the discussion stage, with no deal confirmed and no third season of The Gentlemen officially announced.
