Coral Springs Vice Mayor was found dead in her home Wednesday, April 1, Fox News reported. Her husband, Stephen Bowen, is now in police custody, authorities said.

Police found the city leader, 38, at around 10 am on Wednesday after they began an investigation into her “well-being,” according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. Police Chief Brad Mock said that the case was being investigated as a “domestic violence incident.” No more details have been provided about the circumstances of Nancy’s death.

Who is Stephen Bowen?

Nancy shared several photos with her husband on Facebook. He was ‌booked ⁠into the Broward County jail in Fort Lauderdale, officials said, according to Reuters.

Stephen, 40, was listed as chief operating officer of Men of St. Luke, a religious and fraternal nonprofit organization registered in ​Broward County, per the outlet. Court records have yet to list a defense lawyer for Bowen. It also remains unclear if he has ​retained counsel.

Nancy shared a photo of her and Stephen from their wedding day to mark their anniversary on November 23 last year. “Three years of building, dreaming, and loving each other through everything,” she wrote. “Happy Anniversary Stephen Bowen”.

Nancy’s Facebook profile includes various other photos with her husband. In a 2024 Facebook post, Nancy wrote that she felt “anchored by the love of my incredible husband”. “Grateful for the gift of another year—Chapter #37! There’s a special kind of joy that comes with living in my purpose, feeling anchored by the love of my incredible husband Stephen Bowen, the unwavering support of family, cherished friendships, and a community that continuously uplifts me. Nancy, who was first elected to the Coral Springs City Commission in 2020, was re-elected in 2024. Last November, she was appointed by the commission to serve a second, one-year term as vice mayor, according to her bio on the city’s website.

Before her election to the commission, Nancy worked as an environmental scientist who formerly served on the Broward County Soil and Water Conservation District, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

Nancy was the first Black woman elected to the Coral Springs Commission in 2020, according to Florida Politics.
